Armed Forces
At NHS 24, we are proud to support the Armed Forces Community. We are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming employer for those who have served, continue to serve, and their families.
The Armed Forces Community includes:
- Regular personnel (currently serving in the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force)
- Reservists and Veterans
- Families of both serving personnel and veterans, including spouses, partners, and dependants
- Bereaved families of those who have lost their lives in service
We recognise the unique skills, experiences, and values that members of this community bring to our workforce. Their resilience and adaptability are qualities that align closely with our values at NHS 24.
As part of our commitment, we actively participate in the Armed Forces Talent Programme, an NHS Scotland-wide recruitment initiative for the armed forces community. It supports service leavers, veterans, spouses, partners, dependants, reservists, cadets, and cadet forces adult volunteers to enter our workforce. NHS 24 have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, been awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award, and have registered for the Forces Families Jobs portal to share all vacancies.
Armed Forces Covenant
NHS 24 signed the Armed Forces covenant in November 2024.
The Covenant is a voluntary pledge which organisations can sign up to in order to demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces Community and the principles of the Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
All signatories pledge to uphold and act in accordance with the basic principles of the Covenant. In addition, NHS 24 has committed specific pledges detailing exactly how the Covenant will be supported and upheld.
Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS)
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses Bronze, Silver and Gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
NHS 24 have been awarded the Bronze Award – this means that:
- NHS 24 have pledged to support the armed forces, including existing or prospective employees who are members of the community
- NHS 24 have signed the Armed Forces Covenant
- We are armed forces-friendly and open to employing reservists, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick), cadet instructors and military spouses/partners
